Located around 12 miles North of bustling and upcoming Cardiff, Pontypridd (affectionately known as ‘Ponty’) sits in Rhondda Cynon Taf, at the junction of the Rhondda and Taf valleys, where the River Rhondda flows into the Taff just south of the town at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

Ponty grew from sleepy Hamlet to bustling town after becoming an important transport hub for coal and iron, and the legacy of these industries is worn proudly by the town. Ponty’s history goes back much further, as the Old Bridge is testament to. At the time of construction in 1756, was the longest single-span stone arch bridge in the world, and while it might have lost that title, it’s still a beautiful and powerful landmark.

For residents, the town has a bustling market, a brilliant and recently refurbished lido, and sports clubs, including the famous Pontypridd Rugby Club. And on your doorstep is some of the finest countryside on the planet, with the mighty Brecon Beacons a short drive away for those who like to level-up their weekend walks. Transport wise, Ponty is a great choice for Cardiff commuters, with 30 minute trains several times an hour, and trendy Bristol is about 80 minutes on the train. There are numerous pubs in the area, with a growing selection of places to eat and drink.

Ponty is also home to thousands of students from Glamorgan university, this means this pleasant market town has a vibrancy that gives it real character (and you’ve got plenty of time when the students are at home so it’s nice and quiet!).

Ponty has a number primary and nursery schools rated as Outstanding, along with a secondary, Cardinal Newman R.C. Comprehensive School, which also received the same accolade. In terms of property, Ponty has  the full spectrum, from rural cottages in need of modernisation, to detached town houses and sturdy terraces, and your money will go a lot further than in Cardiff.
