Appearing in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Berne’, Barnes is an area steeped in history (especially musical) and property hidden gems. It retains its village feel by placing a strong emphasis on independent shops and boutiques but is only a short hop and skip from England’s capital via car or public transport on the Hammersmith & City line and rail links. Home to former resident Gustav Holst, Olympic Studios is situated in Barnes and was where The Beatles, David Bowie and Madonna have been known to record their hit records.

The architecture of Barnes is predominantly 18th and 19th century. For many, the houses of Barnes denote Edwardian grandeur, like the Lion Houses or characterise the Victorian elegance of the beautiful waterfront houses overlooking the Thames on The Terrace.
