Once home to Lady Astor, the first woman to hold a seat in Parliament and become an MP, Belgravia has a grand history. Queen Wilhelmina fled her Dutch kingdom to escape the Nazi invasion and found sanctuary on Chester Square, which many years later would be home to Britain’s first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Nowadays the hat maker to the Royals, The Philip Treacy Fashion house, can be found on Elizabeth Street and Britain’s 007 creator, Ian Fleming resided here on Ebury Street. Sean Connery, who famously played the womanising agent also lived in Belgravia in the exclusive Eaton Square.

Since the redevelopment of Elizabeth Street, Motcomb Street and Orange Square the area exudes a village feel, with a wealth of excellent restaurants, boutiques and shops. Belgravia is also only a stones throw away from the world’s most luxurious and famous shopping at Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Sloane Square. It’s the perfect setting for a bloody Mary at The Berkeley or an excellent Sunday lunch at the French bistro Poulot au Pot.

The properties are as grand and appealing as the surrounding exploits. Like the neighbouring Pimlico, the architectural wonder of Belgravia was conjured up by Sir Thomas Cubitt. He was appointed personally by the Grosvenor family, who still own and manage their large estate. The properties are decorated with the characteristic white stucco fronted townhouses that form grand crescents and squares. Along with its stunning traditional architecture, Belgravia offers modern penthouses and apartments as well as mews house that often come with off-street parking.

The schools in this area are also fantastic, boasting primary schools like Eaton House, Hill House, Francis Holland School and Garden House School. The area is well connected by tube on the District, Circle and Victoria lines, and there is an overground link to Gatwick.
