The Cotswolds

Probably England's poshest proper countryside. Rambling hills bursting with picture postcard villages and not too far from London, bonus.

The Costwolds is characterised by its glorious rolling hills, sandstone cottages and country homes. Imminently photographable, the whole region is as pretty as a picture. During the pandemic in 2020, house prices surged by 6.9% and its hardly difficult to see why.

This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is indeed one of Britain’s brightest jewels, with a plethora of country hotels and spas and traditional pubs, the area wants for nothing. The walking trails are popular with visitors, from Britain and abroad, as are the stories of travellers of old dotted around on information boards. Home to Soho Farmhouse, where the rich and famous flock on the weekend and holidays, the Cotswolds have something for everyone, including more low-key cafes in Bourton-on-the-Water and farmer’s markets in Stow-on-the-Wold.

The region hosts the Wilderness Festival and the Cornbury Festival, Cirencester Polo Club and is peppered with beautiful public gardens like Rousham House Gardens. The properties on offer here are as splendid as its reputation would have you believe. From quaint cottages to large manor houses, house and home hunters are spoilt for choice.

Despite being in rural, unspoilt surroundings, public transport links to London and regional towns are efficient from the Cotswolds. It is well connected by access to main roads and train stations. Transport and excellent schools contribute to the area being so popular with young families and retirees, weekenders and holidaymakers alike.
