Located in the Tandridge District of Surrey, on the slopes of the stunning North Downs, Caterham is a town of two halves, consisting of Caterham on the Hill, and Caterham Valley, which includes the main town centre.

The ancient St Lawrence church, which is estimated to be almost 1000 years old shows the area has been popular for quite some time, and it’s easy to see why. The town has everything you need, London’s a short train ride if you need to get into town, but you’re also surrounded by some truly wonderful scenery and stunning country walks.

Both areas are well connected with regular direct trains to London Bridge in just 45 minutes, and Guildford is just 21 miles away and Croydon just 6. Caterham’s also close to the A22, offering access to the M25 junction 6 in just five minutes by car, and Gatwick is a refreshing 20-minutes away.

Caterham offers a range of properties, including centrally located apartments, along with terraced, semi-detached and detached family houses close to all the town’s amenities. More rural properties are also available in the area and are still only a short drive from the shops, restaurants and pubs. The town’s also known for the Asprey Fountain, which was donated in 1890 by noted London jeweller, Charles Aspey, Caterham sports cars, founded in the town in 1973, and being the birthplace of Bill Nighy, who seems like a very nice man.

For the kids, there are very good educational options in the area, including Audley Primary School, St Johns C of E Primary School, Hillcroft Primary School and de Stafford Secondary School. Private schools include Oakhyrst Grange, a small, co-educational independent preparatory school and the famous Caterham School, an independent co-educational HMC day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18 years of age. The latter also boasts large sports fields, woodland, and even an outdoor learning centre.

The area also has everything you need to keep a family full with Waitrose, Morrisons and Tesco all close by. While real ale and cosy pub enthusiasts can enjoy a selection of some of Surrey’s best in The Harrow, The Old Surrey and The Ladybird.

And if you do ever get tired of exploring the Downs, Queen’s Park in Caterham on the Hill is a lovely local bit of green space where a number of different sports can be played. And if you look forward to your weekend tee-time, the stunning Surrey National Golf Club and Kingswood Golf and Country Club are both short drives away.
