Nestled in the serene North West of London, neighbouring Golders Green and East Finchley, Hampstead Garden Suburb is a captivating enclave adorned with exquisite parks, cozy cafes, and picturesque residences. This charming locale boasts excellent connectivity to the broader expanse of London, with its proximity to two underground stations. In addition, it houses a range of educational institutions, making it a coveted neighbourhood for families.

Hampstead Garden Suburb holds a rich historical tapestry, born from the visionary quest of Dame Henrietta Barnett. Following her marriage to Canon Samuel Barnett, the couple embarked on a mission to alleviate poverty in Whitechapel. Amid their philanthropic endeavours, they acquired St. Jude's, a weekend retreat in Hampstead. In 1900, the verdant spaces surrounding St. Jude's were under the threat of development. To safeguard this area and create an inclusive community for individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities, Henrietta purchased 323 acres of land.

Henrietta's vision came to life as she meticulously planned and built a suburb catering to the needs of all, irrespective of economic status, age, or physical ability. Today, Hampstead Garden Suburb flourishes as a vibrant facet of North West London, offering a stunning medley of residences and lush greenscapes that provide a respite from the bustling city centre.

The Suburb encompasses a plethora of qualities that make it an ideal place to reside. It is adorned with beautifully designed period properties and an array of parks and gardens equipped with facilities for both young and old. Noteworthy among these is Lyttleton Playing Fields, where you'll find Keren's Nursery and café, featuring an Ofsted-rated outstanding nursery and a welcoming café.

Hampstead Heath, extending partially into the area, is one of London's most renowned open spaces. It offers playgrounds, sporting facilities, and leisurely strolls through its picturesque landscape. Cozy cafes serve tea, coffee, and delectable cuisine within the heath. Furthermore, the suburb boasts two golf clubs and is home to Northway Gardens, with the meandering Mutton Brook. Numerous supermarkets and local food stores are conveniently dispersed throughout the area.

Education is a priority here, with the prestigious girls' grammar school, Henrietta Barnett, consistently producing high-achieving pupils. Christ's College Finchley stands as another respected state school in the vicinity. Hampstead Garden Suburb also hosts two beloved state primary schools, Garden Suburb Junior School and Brookland Infants. Additionally, there are pre-prep schools like Golders Hill School and Annemount. The community thrives with educational diversity, including Kerem School, an independent Jewish primary school, and King Alfred School, an all-through private institution.

This suburb is renowned for its breathtaking architectural landscapes, enveloped by lush greenery and the expanses of Heath Extension. A walk from the Central Square to Hampstead Heath Extension to the south provides a countryside-like setting leading to Hampstead or Highgate. Golders Hill Park offers a more manicured environment and houses a small zoo and a butterfly house.

Central Square, envisioned as the epicentre of Dame Henrietta Barnett's vision, was meticulously designed for its elevation and scenic views. In the suburb, you'll also find two woodlands designated as nature reserves: Big Wood and Little Wood. Little Wood features an open-air theatre, often utilised by The Garden Suburb Theatre Company during summer.

And let's not forget the grandeur of the 320-hectare Hampstead Heath! This vast space invites residents to enjoy invigorating runs, leisurely walks, and the wild beauty of natural swimming in the ponds.
